So, in case you missed it this happened:
“We’re not going to have the White House forever, folks. If he doesn’t do this, Paul Ryan is going to do it for us in a few years,” said a longtime Obama aide, referring to the 2012 Republican vice presidential candidate who proposed a sweeping overhaul of Medicare that would replace some benefits with vouchers.
There is absolutely no one anywhere saying this is going to happen except a Democratic White House. By declaring this to be an inevitability Obama is making their case for them. There is no need for the republicans to go out and fight for this thing and for Democrats to fight back. There is no need for republicans to endure any political consequences from arguing their own policies. The White House has declared it to be an inevitability. Case closed.
An "over my dead body!" strategy never seems to have occured to this Democratic President. I'd like to thank Obama for making this decision for the entire Democratic party. Perhaps the AARP will have better luck with the libertarians.
So let's see, what else can we save the republicans the trouble of advocating for? Outlawing abortion? They're on their way to doing that. It's looking pretty damn inevitable to me. So let's outlaw it after six weeks and force an ultrasound to beat them to it! Let's save them the political consequences of advocating for their own policies. War with Iran? We have Presidential candidates singing songs about that meme. How far away can it be? Let's strategically bomb them now to give republicans nowhere to go.
This is the single worst argument I've heard come out of this administration and I am tired of being told that the validity of a policy should be based on how much it pisses off the Democratic base. Is there really no other way for Obama to "win" his policies and acheive his "big picture" agenda? Or should we just "hope" for the best some more?
